Quit Staring at My Plate awarded again Quit Staring at My Plate awarded again

Quit Staring at My Plate by Hana Jusic has won an award for best feature film of the Meeting Point competition programme at the 61st edition of the Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci). The Meeting Point programme screens first and second films by up-and-coming film directors and this year it hosted 14 feature films.
The jury explanation stated: “Quit Staring at My Plate is a brave and daring film which at no point follows the easy narrative path, but instead uses a firm hand and a steady pace to show the unpleasant truth about its characters. Deprived of any emotional tricks, the story is always one step ahead of the viewer and immerses him, not allowing him to stray freely with the protagonist, forgive her or understand her. As a viewer of this story, one feels that the camera always shows exactly what it is supposed to show, from the angle it is supposed to show it. As in the best films by Cassavetes, in which everything serves the story, this film does not tailor to the author's stylistic whims, while the frames perfectly support the story, which gets its force from the originality of the view at situations displayed, and not from their probability.”

Matanic's The High Sun has won another best picture award, this time at the Geneva International Film Festival and Forum of Human Rights. Other films competing in the same category, along with other brilliant films, included the Danish War by Tobias Lindholm, an Oscar nominee, as well as Trap by Brillante Mendoza, a director awarded in Cannes. The award explanation by the Fiction and Human Rights Prize feature film jury among other stated: "The jury was touched by the universal topic explored by this film. The author speaks of hatred and the ways in which it can be surpassed in a quite original manner. The decision for the actors to play several roles is both intriguing and convincing, resulting in a very successful mirror structure of the story." In its explanation, the jury especially commended the quality of film direction and actors' interpretation, in particular the one by Tihana Lazovic.

Tihana, who has already won three awards for this film, was a guest at the festival and presented the film to the audience.
